Descrizione
The Monteregio Novarese is the hilly area that rises from the municipality of Briona towards the Valsesia up to the slopes of Monte Fenera. This tour will take you to discover it on your bicycle, along secondary roads that wind through the "checkered sea" of the rice fields and on the gentle slopes of the wine hills. From the heart of the city of Novara, dominated by the majestic Dome of San Gaudenzio, you will pedal in the direction of the Novara plain, where an ever-changing landscape welcomes you according to the seasons: from the blue of the water in the rice fields in spring to the golden fields at the end of the 'summer.
From Briona onwards the plain ripples and becomes hills, the rice fields give way to vineyards, the meadows to trees and shrubs. Following the western border of the Baragge Nature Reserve, you begin to climb among the vineyards where the wines of the Novara hills are produced, which represent the synthesis of the oldest viticulture tradition of the region.
At the foot of the solitary Monte Fenera, the itinerary turns sharply east and crosses the Natural Park of the same name in the direction of Maggiora. Just before the town, where the architect Alessandro Antonelli left several footprints, is the Sanctuary of the Santissimo Crocifisso di Boca, also by Antonelli, which bursts into the midst of the vineyards in all its majesty.
During the entire journey, you will be able to appreciate the many faces of the Province of Novara: culture, art, architecture, food and wine and nature here come together in a truly unparalleled combination. In the villages of Novara and in the surrounding countryside you can visit museums and ecomuseums, admire extraordinary works or taste the typical tapulon accompanied by a glass of Boca or Sizzano.
The route ends after 83 kilometers at the Borgomanero railway station, after having crossed the city lengthwise. If you want to shorten the itinerary, a good option is to start or finish in Briona, which is about halfway through, adding a piece of road to get to the Momo or Carpignano Sesia station.
