The parish church dedicated to San Vittore rises in the centre of the village surrounded by the ancient medieval castle. This former parish priest’s church is mentioned in papers of the year 1000 and 1013 and then it is confirmed in the Innocenzo II’s bull of 1132 as possession of the bishop of Novara. The parish church is today the result of various reworking interventions that followed each other over the centuries starting from the 17th century, when the rebuilding works took place in the area of the pre-existing medieval church. It has a nave and two aisles subdivided by stone pilasters, a large presbyter and choir; the lateral chapels are nine, rich in frescoes, paintings and 17th-century and 18th-century marble altars. The medieval belfry stands next to the church; it is decorated with heavily roughcast hanging archlets, which mark the floors; the belfry dated back to the 17th century. For 2000 years, San Vittore’s church has preserved two important epigraphic witnesses situated on both sides of a white marble plate. One is a funeral inscription of the little girl Augusta, buried with Christian rite in the year 519. The other inscription, on the opposite side, wasn’t visible anymore at the time of Bascapè because embed in a wall of the church. It is a Roman age inscription recalling the land donation made by Caio Attilio to the "paganis Agaminis" in order to realize a public work (now the epigraph has been removed as it is undergoing to a restoration). In 2001 an excavation campaign begun inside San Vittore’s church; important findings let the scholars know the origins of the ancient rural parish church. The pre-existing buildings were at a ground level as they were lower of one metre than the present one. As a result, they discovered the remains of a building likely of the II century, probably of thermal use. An early Christian building with a nave, two aisles and fictile columns laying on a quadrilateral serizzo-stone rises inside this structure. The original flooring is still visible. The remains of the Romanesque plan can be seen, too. The interesting recovery of the Holy Communion of the Romanesque altar with floral decorations are worth a mention. The archaeological discovery of the San Vittore’s rural parish church of such importance that new exploratory excavations are scheduled very soon; they could contribute to give more precise information about the entire building.
