Palazzo De Visard e resti di Castel Domino
The De Visard palace stands in the locality called “Castello”, so called because here lie the remains of the ancient early-medieval fortification of Pombia dating back to the X century. The building is composed of a long linear three-storey body, whose north side faces a square enclosed by a railing g limited by two pilasters surmounted by a gable, that lock up the entrance gate. The south façade overlooks a large garden extending toward the hill. From its top one can admire the remains of Castel Domino. Recent restoration works have given the elegant frames that are painted around the façade windows their lustre again. The Earls Simonetta palace rises on the north-west side lent to the De Visard Palace, reminded in a paper of 1658. The building presents a pigeon-tower above its façade. A noble coat of arms and elegant wrought-iron balcony can be notices above the entrance portal. Moving to the hill top close to the ancient rural parish church of Pombia (Saints Vincenzo and Anastasio), where once a mighty square tower rose (8 metres sideways, 1,40 thick), of which only the lower part remains, a building made of pebble stones mixed with soil and regular stone quoins. Its task was to protect the population against possible attacks of enemies.
