The ancient countryside oratory dedicated to Saint Antonio Abate stands at Orcetto, today Saint Bernardino of Briona. The papers available are poor and the many reworking works don’t allow a precise chronological dating of the religious building. It is supposed it was built up between the end of the XIV century and the first decades of the XV century on the premise that Saint Anthony’s cult revealed itself significantly starting from the 15th century. The small building has a nave with semicircular apse and a saddleback front, all covered with wooden roof protected by a coat of curved tiles. In origin it showed a square plan, which was modified and enlarged in 1610. The wall-paintings of its interior, covering almost entirely the walls of the original structure are interesting and valuables. Though they have never been exhaustively studied, it is guessed they have a sole author: Tommaso Cagnola and his workshop. A big mandorla, where the Throne of Mercy uniting the Majestas Domini and the Crucifixion is depicted, shows offs in the conch. The symbols of the four evangelists, Saint Sebastiano and Saint Rocco complete the representation, while, a delicate Our Lady of Annunciation characterizes the triumphal arch. Five figures of Saints and a ‘Madonna with child on the Throne are depicted on the north wall. Direct you attention to the first figure: Saint Antonio Abate with the long and characteristic grey beard. The south wall represents five Saints and two Virgin Mary and Child on the Throne contained in a decorating belt.
