Chiesa di Ognissanti
The ancient church of Ognissanti stands on the corner of Vicolo Ognissanti with Via Silvio Pellico, in the historical centre of the town. Its origins are remote. It is already mentioned in 1124, at Litifredo’s times, among the town churches, whose clergy is exempted from the obligation to go to the cathedral for the morning prayers during the main feasts. Then, it was mentioned in 1132 among the goods confirmed to the bishop by the Pope Innocenzo II. It has the nave and two aisles of four spans each, with semi-circular apse and elegant octagonal dome cladding lighted by single-lancet and double-lancet windows. Some wall-paintings, i.e. a Madonna del Latte ascribed to Giovanni del Campo dating back to the half of the 15th century, are visible in its interior. Outside the building walls are made in bricks arranged in regular courses; elegant hanging archlets, which rest on consoles differently decorated in baked clay, ornate the underside of the roof-gutter. In the course of the 50s in the last century, the ancient religious building has undergone an important structural restoration as much to change the adaptations happened in the XVIII century and bring it again to the original Romanesque look.
